September 13, 2004 - WE ARE HOME!!!  Sorry, that it has taken me so long to update.  When we were in Kiev, we didn't have access to email.  There was not an Internet connection close by.  We got there Thursday morning and went to the American Medical Center.  Molly did okay but cried when I took her clothes off!  The doctor said she was fine but her head was alittle small for her age.  I'm not going to worry about it at all.  For 19 months, she has been seen by the orphanage doctors and they seem to think she is healthy!  We then went to eat at Arizona BBQ and it was sleeting!!!!  It was so cold!  Our apartment was in the Presidential district and it was SOOOO nice but the government controls the heat and they had not turned it on yet.  We froze!  After lunch, we headed to the American Embassy!  Do you know that you are technically on American soil when you are there?  It was so cool!  They are extremely nice there!!!!  We filled out the necessary paperwork and had our interview with the US Consular Officer.  She was so sweet.
The next day, Craig went to pick her up Visa and then we went to get her birth certificate apostilled.  Craig went to Lufthansa to see about our tickets. They told us if we upgraded to Business Class from Kiev to Munich - then we could leave the next day!  He paid only $300 and we were able to leave on the 11th!  It was great.  The flights were wonderful and Molly did a great job.  We had people from all over the plane telling us what a great baby she was!  We were so proud of her.  Her ears never hurt either!  When we got to Chicago, we had a 6 hour layover. We rented a room at the Hilton in the airport and that was the smartest thing to do!  We rested and ate!  It was our 5th wedding anniversary and we had our meal there in the room.  Molly had her first PB&J!!!
When we reached San Antonio, it was amazing!  There were about 30 people there to greet us.  Everyone had American Flags and snapping photos!  Molly did fine.  She never cried, just looked at everyone.  She was so calm.  My mother was crying and couldn't believe that her grandbaby was finally home!
Molly was so mad at us for putting her in a carseat!  She screamed for 10 minutes but we finally got used to it.  She quit crying and then fell asleep.  When we got home, we went in her new room.  It was like Christmas morning.  She went to everything in there and touched it!  She was amazed at everything.  We tried putting her in the crib but realized its too small for her.  She would go right over the rail.  The bed is too high and its on the lowest setting.  We put up her Pack and Play and she sleeps in there.  She slept with us the first night and cried a couple of times. At 7:30 the next morning, she woke up with a big smile and ready to start the day.  She had a great first day!  She ate extremely well!  Last night, our friends came over for a cook out. They all brought their children and again, Molly did well.  She let the other girls hold her!  I was impressed.  She didn't actually play with the other children but she didn't cry either.  They all played on her new Playscape!  Everyone was so kind.  They brought gifts and tons of food!
At bedtime, I put her in the Pack and Play and she went to sleep just fine.  She woke up at 3 AM and I rocked her back to sleep.  She slept until 7 this morning and got up all smiles!  She ate a great breakfast and then her friends, Chase and Elisabeth, came over to play.  She is just so adorable!
She loves the dogs!  She chases Chanel (the Shih-tzu) all over the house!  She goes outside and walks right up to Ginger's pen (chocolate lab) and lets Ginger kiss her.  I am so proud of her!
I can't believe I am finally home!  There are times I just look at her and I am amazed.  I also feel like I am babysitting sometimes!  I can't believe I AM A MOM!  Its such a great feeling!
I have great friends who came over this morning just to watch Molly while I took a shower!  Its been great.  My friends have signed up to bring meals every other night for us until October 1st!  Amazing!
I hope to continue to update our journal now that we are home!
Love to all of you!
Becca, Craig and Molly Hill

September 8, 2004 - THE FIRST NIGHT!!!  Well, when I was writing last night and thinking she was fast asleep - she started screaming!  Vitaly - the other roommate came to get me in Anita and Roland's apartment.  I went in there and she was screaming so loud!  She was obviously terrified and didn't know where she was at that time.  I laid down and we went to sleep for atleast another hour and a half.  Then, it started again - the screaming.  She did this regularly about every hour and a half until 7:30 AM.  At that time, she woke up with a smile on her face and ready to start the day.  Daddy went to get her some baby food for breakfast and she had her mangos, bananas, and milk.  We then laid down for another nap at 9:30 and she slept fine for an hour.  Then, the fun began once more - BATH TIME!  She screamed her head off as if I was torturing her!  But, we made it through just fine and we have a clean baby!
We headed downtown for lunch and shopping.  Daddy insisted that we buy her a pink outfit since everyone was mistaking her for a boy!!!!  So, she has some new threads on!!!  Back home for another nap and then dinner.  We are actually going out to dinner at Bartholomeo's and taking Anita, Roland, Denis, Beth and Vitaly with us.  It should be a great evening.  I dread saying goodbye though!  I can't believe my time here is through.  We'll get on the night train and will be in Kiev by 7 AM.  Roland and Vitaly are on the same train so that should be fun.  We go to the American Medical Center for her first doctor's appointment - I'm sure that will be fun - at 9:30 AM and then to the US Embassy at 1 PM.  We are really hoping to get out of here on Friday or Saturday.  PLEASE PRAY THAT WE FIND A FLIGHT!!!!  If not, we'll still fly out on the 14th.
As far as her name - there has been some confusion.  There was a mistake in the petition and her middle name was left out.  So, in order to get it changed here, it would have taken an act of congress.  Craig and I made the decision that we would add the middle name "Rebecca" when we get to the USA!  After all we've been through, we weren't willing to jump through hurdles again just to add Rebecca.
Well, I need to get her changed and ready for an evening out with the adults.
LOVE TO ALL OF YOU!!!!
Becca, Craig and Molly Hill - Finally!!!!!

September 7, 2004 - "For this child I have prayed..."  I can't believe that we are finally parents.  After years of wanting a child, God has blessed us with her!  We have had such an amazing day and one that I will never forget.  Beth picked me up and we headed to the orphanage.  Craig was already there.  The two workers that I prayed would be there, were there.  Vera and Luba!  They have been there since Molly was brought to the orphange.  Vera called Molly "maya doch" which is "my daughter" in Russian from the day I got there.  She loves her so much!  She had bathed her with real soap, clipped her nails, washed her clothes and cleaned her ears and nose for me.  The children were sleeping when we got there which gave us time to visit with them.  We ate cake, cookies, chocolate and drank orange juice.  I gave them their gifts of photos with them and Molly and body lotion.  They cried when they read the letter I had written to them.  We sat and talked about Molly and her life at the orphanage.  Beth was there to translate and she was a lifesaver!  Denis and Edward were frantically busy getting the necessary documents.  When Molly woke up, I put on her new clothes from the USA.  She wore her denim jeans and blue long sleeve top.  It was then time for us to leave.  As I was dressing her, Vera kept saying "My soul is hurting!"  She was crying and then I started crying.  When we got up to leave, she and I kept talking in Russian, then we would hug, then cry and then repeat all the above!  Neither one of us wanted to let go!  It was MUCH harder than I ever could have imagined!  Beth then started crying which made me cry even harder.  Daddy was hard at work taking photos of her last moments there!  It was amazing.
We then headed to good ole McDonald's where she had her first lunch with Daddy.  She had a Happy Meal and received her first Hot Wheels car!  Her Papa Hill will be proud!  We then headed to get her new birth certificate!!!  Name:  Molly Hill  Father:  Craig Alan Hill  Mother:  Amy Rebecca Hill - It was so cool!  We saw the little village where she was born - it was devastating!  So poor!
We then went home to take a nap but after an unsuccessful attempt at sleep we decided to watch Veggie Tales.  Daddy slept!
We were picked up by Beth and taken to Alpha and Omega.  They were having an outreach "Coffee House" with a team from the US.  They had games, food, and music.  Molly decided it was best if she showed off her talent of dancing!  Everyone was watching her and just smiling.  I think she liked the attention!  We then went to dinner on the river.  Beth, Craig, Molly and myself. We had a great celebration dinner and then headed home. Molly fell fast asleep and is currently in the middle of the bed. She is just adorable in her new yellow PJ's!
Tomorrow, we will get her new foreign passport and then head to Kiev.  Apparently, there was an issue with our marriage certificate and could have caused her MUCH trouble!  We had one sent from the US before our court date but didn't have it appostilled.  When Denis got to the office today, they were giving him a hard time.  One of the founders of Alpha and Omega was there, Misha.  He is a big wig in Dnepro.  (He currently lives in Seattle)  Anyway, he knew the head honcho lady and asked if she could just give Denis the passport.  It wasn't a coincidence that Denis and Misha were there at the same time in this little office.  That was a God thing!  Praise the Lord!  So, they will have the passport ready at 9 in the morning and we are done!!!
We have our appointments in Kiev and then we are going to try earnestly to get a flight home as early as possible!!!! Even if we have to be routed to Germany, then to California, back to NY and then home - it would be worth it!
I am so thankful for our time here and the experience that we have had.  Though it would not have been the route I would have taken, it was orchestrated by God.  My aunt Sylvia wrote me yesterday and said "Everything that touches you was first sifted through His fingers>"  I think I got that right.
Okay - Molly is screaming - gotta go!
LOVE YOU

September 6, 2004 - Well, tomorrow is the big day!  We get to take our little Molly from the orphanage for the last time.  We were there today and we both realized that its going to be hard to leave that place.  That doesn't sound quite right to some but we've been around for so long that its part of our lives.  Everyday, I would go to that place and everyday, I would leave my precious daughter there.  We are going to have a rude awakening tomorrow night when we have her for the first time.  She will have alot of firsts tomorrow!  Her first bath, her first time to sleep away from Ana - her best friend!  The first time to stay with her parents!  Its going to be such an exciting day!  I can't wait!
We will be there around 10:30 to have a little party for all her caretakers.  We are buying cakes, cookies, chocolate, and juice.  I've bought frames and will put Molly's photo in each of them and give them to the workers.  Craig also brought some hand lotion that I will give them as well.  We just wanted to show our appreciation for loving our daughter the first year of her life.  They do love her and I know they will be sad to see her go.
Denis has done most of the work beforehand.  We are just waiting on Edward and the remainder of the paperwork needed to get the birth certificate and the foreign passport for Molly.  We leave for Kiev on Wednesday night and will visit the American Medical Clinic at 9:30 Thursday morning.  We will then try to get to the US Embassy that afternoon to get things rolling there.  We still hope to get out of Ukraine early!  We will be checking flights everyday!!!
Well, I  must go to sleep now.  Tomorrow is going to be such a busy day!!!
LOVE TO ALL OF YOU!!!
Becca, Craig, and Molly

September 4, 2004 - Hello from Ukraine!  Well, things seem to pretty nice around here - its beginning to feel like fall!  I think the high today is 70 and the low tonight is in the 40's.  Next week, it cools off quite a bit with the high in the mid-60's and the lows in the upper 30's!  Too cold for this Texas girl!  But, its so nice.  I am thankful that Craig is returning to Ukraine!  It is going to be so nice to have him here.  Molly and I have really missed him!  I can't wait to see what she does when he walks into her room tomorrow!
Please keep the children and their families in Russia in your prayers.  I'm not real close to them but close enough.  Its south of us somewhat.  But, its just been devastating!  I can't imagine what they must be going through!  Also, keep the residents of Florida in your prayers.  Two hurricanes within weeks of one another and this one is supposed to be pretty bad.  I catch little highlights of the weather on BBC so I am not sure the intensity of any of those storms.  I hear they are pretty bad.
Molly has not been acting very nicely lately.  The ladies at the orphanage said she would not eat yesterday and she threw quite a lot of fits!  When I had her on Thursday, she cried the entire time.  Today, she wanted to cry but all she did was pout until we started playing with her toes and belly.  She then got a burst of energy and began smiling.  Not sure if she is teething or what.  Maybe she is just so ready to go home!!!!
I can't believe we leave in 10 days!  I'll be here for 75 days on the day we leave - amazing!  Who would have thought?  I will miss this place.  I will miss the friends that I have made and I've made so many.  This girl, Oksana, and I went shopping this morning.  I just love her!  Everyone is all about relationships so its so cool!  I love hanging out with these students over here.  They just love people so much!  I hope to come back soon and see them again.  C
Craig will be landing at 4:10 Ukraine time tomorrow afternoon.  We will be there with bells on to pick him up.  We hope to get to the orphanage to see Miss Molly as soon as we get him.  I know he will want to see her!
Well, I thank you for your prayers!  I just heard on BBC that the hurricane as been downgraded to a Category 2 so that is better news!   Thank you, Lord!
I must go but I hope to see all of you soon!!!  LOVE, Becca and Molly

September 1, 2004 - Well, I never thought I'd be in Ukraine on the first day of school!  Its so cute to see all the children in their uniforms carrying flowers for their teachers.  The girls have these HUGE white bows in their hair - its so funny.  We got off the night train at 7 this morning from Kiev.  We had a fabulous time!  We ate REAL AMERICAN CHEESEBURGERS at Arizona BBQ for lunch and then we went to TGIFriday's for dinner.  We got our fix of American food.  We were able to shop for souveniers and that was a lot of fun!  Most of them are young funny guys that speak broken English.  I wheeled and dealed and was a sucker at times too.  We saw the Golden Gate which was a gate/wall that separated the peasants from royalty before 1500.  You had to pay gold to cross.  It was really cool.  Then, we went to see the Opera House which is incredible!  I was hoping to catch a ballet while here, but there isn't one.  :(
We found out yesterday that we will remain in Kiev until the 14th of September rather than coming home on the 11th.  Craig tried to book tickets using www.cheaptickets.com and booked a return flight for all three of us.  I guess they contacted him and told him that they did not have a contract with Ukraine Airlines and that the ticket is bogus!  So, we are using our Lufthansa tickets and returning on the 14th. We had to pay alot of extra money to change our tickets - $400 for Craig, $200 for me, and a lap seat for Molly was over $300!!  I DON'T RECOMMEND LUFTHANSA!!!!  Pay the extra money with the other airlines that are flexible and willing to work with adoptive parents!!!  So, we'll spend about 5 days in Kiev.  Atleast its nice and more modern than Dnipropetrovsk.  However, I really like where we are right now.  The people are so wonderful!  I will certainly miss my friends!!!!!!  I miss them just thinking about it.  Oh, I have been truly blessed.
So, for those of you planning on coming to the airport, I realize its a school/work night so it may be too late for you to be there.  We don't arrive into San Antonio until 10:30 that night.  We were hoping to see everyone at the airport but it just may not work out.  Sorry :(
Well, I need to get ready to go see Miss Molly.  I've missed her!
Love to all of you - Becca, Craig, and Molly

August 30, 2004 - Wow - its almost the end of August!  Boy, has time flown by.  Well, the director of the orphanage received a phone call from a man on Friday asking about us.  He wanted to make sure that she knew both parents needed to be there to pick up Molly.  The poor director is terrified about losing her job so she has decided to make Craig come back.  So, he is coming next Sunday and will go home with us.  Though its an added expense we were not expected to make, I am so glad he is coming back.  It will be great to see him and it will help with the bonding of Molly and her daddy.  I think with the three of us returning together, it will allow her to reacquaint herself with him.  Its all going to work out.
We booked flights for September 11th and will be getting into San Antonio at 8:35 PM on that evening.  We are so excited - only a week and 6 days!!!!  I can't believe its almost here!
I've been really busy lately here in Dnepropetrovsk.  Beth and I headed to Bartholomeo's on Friday (by the way, the little boy that almost drowned is okay.)  Then, on Saturday, I went to see my baby and then to the American Club with Beth.  On Sunday, I attended Alpha and Omega - which was great!  Then, I got to meet other Southern Baptist Missionaries that are here.  And, the wife, Linda, is from Mississippi!  She grew up just minutes from Hattiesburg - where I am from!  She graduated from William Carey College.  What a small world!  Their names are Mike and Linda Ray and they have Rebekah and Hannah.  They are so sweet!  I also met another team member, Tim, from North Carolina.  We sat around and sang praise songs and had a time of prayer.  It was amazing.  What a way to begin your week.  These people are a part of the ministry team that Beth belongs too.  They are incredible and you can really see them shine the light of Jesus in their lives.  Its just been amazing to see them and the ministry they are doing in Ukraine.  If anyone is ever interested in short term or long term mission trips - I have a great contact here in Ukraine.  They work with teams all over the US.  Next week, they are expecting a medical team to come here to bring people to the Lord.  Pray for them!
Well, Miss Molly got a Playscape from her Gigi and Papa yesterday.  She is going to be amazed!  The things they have over here to play with are big, bulky, metal, rusted, and falling apart.  Its so sad.  But, these kids don't know the difference and its great to them.  I can't wait to see Molly's face.  I had her today and we didn't do too much.  We went to the travel agent and then to Central Market.  This is a TRUE Central Market.  They have meat hanging all over, fresh veggies and fruits, eggs, milk and bridal gowns???  Go figure!  Anyway, I would never buy meat there.  I saw things I didn't even know existed in a cow!  It was pretty gross.
Well, tonight, Beth, Anita, and I are headed to Kiev on the night train.  We are going to have a girls day tomorrow and do some souvenier shopping.  I am so excited!!!!  We leave at 10:30 PM and will arrive around 7 AM.  We'll shop all day and eat at Arizona's BBQ for a REAL American hamburger and then get on the train tomorrow night and head home.  It should be a really fun experience!
Well, just pray for Craig as he comes back over.  Pray that all the paperwork in the final stages is done quickly and right.  We'll be home soon!
WE LOVE YOU,
Becca, Molly and Craig via the US

August 26, 2004 - Hi friends and family!  Hope all is well in your household!  Things are okay here.  We did talk to the director of the orphanage today and she did state that its the law for both parents to be there to pick up the child.  The judge told us that we were okay to have just me pick up the child after the 30 day waiting period.  Apparently, a law was enacted January 2004, that both parents must be here to take the child home.  We begged and pleaded with the director and the more we begged, the softer her heart became.  She is scared of the prosecutor and what she might do.  She has threatened the director to take her to criminal court if she allows this to happen again.  I then contacted Edward and he informed me that there is no such law so I began to sigh a sigh of relief.  But, something told me to contact the attorney in Kiev that does adoptions.  Unfortunately, she confirmed that there is a law but its unclear.  It states "adoptive parent" must be present to pick up the child after the 30 day waiting period is over.  Most regions interpret that to mean that you can't have an escort service of any kind pick up the child, it must be the actual parent.  I know China allows or used to allow people to pick up children for familes.  Anyway, this prosecutor interprets that BOTH parents must be present.  We kept begging and the director is so scared of her!  But, she did say she would give us an answer on Monday.  Another glitch or roadblock in the journey!  I was very upset and worried today.  Craig doesn't seem to be - he said "If I need to come over, I will, don't worry.  God is in control."  And, he is right.  God is in control and has been since Day 1.  I've been reading alot of Max Lucado and today I was reading about "being in the jungle of life."  There are times when we feel hopeless and lost, like foreigners in a foreign country!  That's me!  But, God gives us hope.  And, I've seen it here!  He does give us hope when we feel like we have NOTHING left!  I am so thankful for this experience and the hardships that we've faced.  Its only brought us closer to Him!  He does have a sense of humor that I read that AFTER we received word on both having to be here!  Thank you Lord!
Well, I am taking the day off tomorrow from the orphanage.  Everyone here insists that I take time out for myself!  It does make the time go by faster when I have other things to do.  I'm sure Molly won't mind if her Mom gets a little R&R tomorrow by the pool!
She was fine today and quite funny.  Everytime she hears a baby cry, she points her finger and says "No, no!"  Today, they kept crying and she was very frustrated and just got louder and louder!  She wanted them to be quiet!  When I took her up at 7 this evening, I fed her and then started playing with the little babies.  I held one in my arms that was crying and Little Miss Molly was NOT happy at all!  The attention was off of her and on someone else.  She was trying so hard to get my attention and pulling on me.  So, I picked her up and held them both.  She thought that was really something until she poked the little guy in the eye!!!!  JEALOUSY!!!
Well, I need to get to bed.  LOVE TO ALL OFYOU FROM UKRAINE!
Becca and Molly

August 25, 2004 - Well, yesterday was Ukraine Independence Day!  I went to the orphanage and then headed downtown to celebrate with the rest of Ukraine.  I consider myself a Ukrainian, so I had to ring in the special holiday.  Beth and I met Jenya and Oksana down by the river.  We ate shiskabobs and french fries!  It was great.  Then, we met Denis at the Mirage Cafe and had coffee.  The wind was blowing so hard and it was actually cold.  So, the coffee was great.  We headed downtown where they had a concert in the center of town.  The sound was not that great so we headed to Beth's for tortillas, butter and cinnamon!  I felt like I was at home.  We watch the video from Summer Camp at the Black Sea and then fell asleep.  It was a great way to celebrate Independence Day!  However, some Ukrainians don't like that day.  Some feel like the times were better under Communist Rule.  They say that the place was cleaner, people had more money, and they like it that way.  Others are thankful for Ukraine Independence.  Its just mixed emotion.
Today was a good day.  We picked Molly up at 10 and headed to the zoo and aquarium.  She wasn't as fascinated at the zoo as I would have thought but it was hard to see the animals.  We saw the bears, who apparently, bit off a child's hand about two weeks ago.  The child was not supervised and climbed over a HUGE fence and put his hand in their cage. It was really sad but both bears were alive and kicking today.  I didn't let Molly near the fence!  Then, we headed to look at fish and she was terrified when this huge fish came swimming towards her!  Her Daddy is going to have to teach her to love fish!  Or atleast love TO fish!
Things are good here.  I am going to spend time with Molly tomorrow and then Beth wants to go back to Bartholomeo's on Friday (well, we both do!).  Her life is about to get chaotic with school so she needs another day of relaxation!  Then, next Monday night, we are taking the night train (Beth, Anita, and I) to Kiev.  We will get there at 7AM, shop all day for souveniers, eat at Arizona's BBQ, and then head back that evening.  We are SO excited!  It will be a great girls trip and we'll get to do some great shopping.  There is an outside market there that has the best shopping in Ukraine!  I hope to bring home alot of things that will always remind me of my time here!
Things at home are well.  Everyone misses us so  much and we miss you guys too!  I can't wait to get home and get back in the swing of things.  I tend to get so exhausted here during my visits with Molly but I know that its because we do the same thing just about everyday!
Please pray that Craig does not need to come back to get Molly.  I received an email from a lady who adopted in this region earlier this year.  She said that a couple from Germany adopted and one parent returned for the child.  They would not allow that one parent to take the child home.  We asked the judge and she made it sound like it was okay.  We are checking tomorrow but please, please, please, pray that I can bring her home on my own.
Well, I better get some sleep - its midnight!
LOVE TO YOU ALL!
Becca
PS - I'm posting some photos of my Ukrainian friends on the photo page!

August 22, 2004 - Hello friends and family.  Well, I took the day off and went to church with Beth and then to eat at McDonald's!  Then, we went to Bartholomeo's - a swimming pool.  It was so relaxing just to be in the sun and hang out together.  We stayed pretty much all day.  Unfortunately, a little boy almost drowned and was rushed to the hospital.  He was not conscious and we aren't sure if he hit his head and then began drowning.  It was very scary!  I just pray that he is okay.  He was about 6 or 7 years old.  He had been playing in the pool all day.  There are lots of steps and things in the pool, he could have hit his head though we saw no blood.  I just feel for him and his parents.
Molly is doing better.  I didn't see her today but yesterday she was fine.  She just wanted to sit in her Mommy's lap and have me sing.  I would quit and then she would just look up at me to tell me to keep going.  I'm not much of a singer but I did the best I could!
We went over the normal things "what does a dog say, what does a duck say" and then we learned the bear!  She was so funny!  She loves to roar like a bear.  She seemed to be okay, no throwing up and her head looks better.  I am still going to talk to the doctor tomorrow and make sure she is okay.
Tuesday, I believe, is Ukraine Independence Day.  So, there are Ukrainian flags EVERYWHERE!  The lawns are being mowed and things are clean!  I guess they are getting ready to celebrate and they want things to look nice.  Offices are closed tomorrow and Tuesday in observance of this holiday.
Things are going well at home.  Craig seems to be doing okay.  Just keep all of us in your prayers as we are away from one another.  I am planning on coming home on our 5th wedding anniversary - September 11th.  I pick up the court decree on Tuesday, the 7th and then spend that day and Wednesday in Dnipropetrovsk getting her foreign passport and birth certificate.  Then, I will travel by train to Kiev to the American Medical Clinic on Thursday and then the US Embassy on Friday.  I should leave Kiev on the 11th if there are flights available.  I am ready to go home.  Even though I am not miserable being here!  God has blessed me so much!
Thanks to all of you for your emails!
LOVE TO ALL OF YOU!
Becca and Molly

Smurfette Molly

August 20, 2004 - Hi Friends and Family!  Well, I learned today that you can't protect your children!  Molly fell today and it scared me to death.  She cried alittle but I think I cried worse!  I ran her in the orphanage with blood on her forehead and tried to communicate to them what had happened.  She was running and tripped - she skidded on the pavement!  Her whole left side was pretty banged up.  No stiches required.  She wimpered alittle and then screamed when they applied the peroxide and ice!  I wanted to cry with her but I knew I had to be strong for her.  Once they doctored her up, they put this blue stuff on her.  Its like blue iodine or something.  Anyway, she looks like a Smurf!  I hope it disappears before we leave for home.  She then didn't feel well when I came back for my evening visit.  She threw up and then didn't want to eat.  A child in her class has been in the hospital for over a week now from throwing up.  I just pray that nothing is wrong with Molly.  Anita said she tends to throw up her food every once in awhile and I hope that nothing is wrong.  I may just be a paranoid mother!  I will check on her tomorrow and let you know.
Beth and I had a great time yesterday.  She picked me up and we fixed Mexican food!  It was awesome.  She baked fresh homemade tortillas!  It was heaven!  We had chicken fajitas and refried beans.  I felt like I was in Texas!  We then walked to the bowling alley and had a great game of bowling. She is MUCH better than I am!!  But, we had so much fun.  We went back to her apartment and watched '13 Going on 30" and then fell asleep.  It was so much fun and it was great to get away and just hang out for the day.  After I visited Molly today, Beth came back and picked me up.  We went to eat cheese sticks at Melrose Place and celebrated her getting her car back today!! Its been in the shop all week.  We went to visit some friends of hers and had tea and snacks.  It was a fun evening.  I will be with her tomorrow evening as well.  She runs the American Club on Saturday nights.  Its very similar to Young Life.  She teaches them English but using games and reading the Bible.  Its so much fun!  We did the Hokey Pokey last week - not sure if I wrote that before.  Anyway, I am looking forward to it.
Well, all the grandparents of Molly officially have names!  I've been waiting for my dad and his wife to come up with names.  So here they all are - My Mom is Gammy (after her mother who was Gammy), My Daddy is Pops, My Stepmother is Mia (which means Grandmother's Love in French, I believe), Craig's Mom is Gigi and Craig's Dad is Papa!  Now I can start calling everyone by those names and Molly should know them by the time we get home!
She said "bye bye" today!  She also learned what a bear says!  She was too funny.  She already knows what the dogs says and she even did it on her own today without me prompting her!  She is so smart!
Well, its almost midnight here!  I better get to sleep.  I'm trying to stay awake to watch the Olympics but its hard!!  I think the USA is ahead in medals!!!!
I hope all is well where you are!  I want to share a quote that I read in a book "Reaching for the Invisible God" by Philip Yancey.  The quote is by Jean-Pierre de Caussade (an 18th century spiritual leader) "Love and accept the present moment as the best, with perfect trust in God's universal goodness...Everything without exception is an instrument and means of sanctification...God's purpose for us is always what will contribute most to our good."  When we go through things we don't understand - ask yourself "What can I learn from it and pray for God to redeem it by improving me."  I hope that you find encouragement in those words.    Remember to choose to become blessed and not bitter!
Love you!

August 18, 2004 - Molly had a great day today.  I picked her up at 9 this morning with my friend, Lena and her 3 year old daughter, Sonia.  We went to Central Park and played on the playground.  Molly had a great time and I think never quit smiling!!!  She saw REAL ducks - instead of the little yellow one she has been playing with since we got here.  When I asked her what the duck says - she said "Ruff."  I said no that is a dog and she said "Ruff" again.  Then I said a duck says "Quack, quack" and then she repeated me!!!!  I am such a proud Mommy!  We then took her to McDonald's where she had her first Happy Meal with Chicken Nuggets and she loved them!!!  She didn't throw them up either.  Anita warned me to take it easy but I had to try it and she did fine.  We then went back to Anita and Roland's and she watched her first Veggie Tales Movie - she was adorable.  She kept dancing everytime they sang!!!  When I say "dance" - she does it.  She is learning more and more English everyday.  We then took a nap - after she kicked her legs up and down and frowned for atleast 30 seconds.  She slept GREAT!  I hated to take her back - she cried and cried when I gave her back.  Mommy just about cried too!
Tomorrow I am taking the day off and spending it with Beth.  She has had a tough few weeks and I need to take time for myself too.  So, we are having a Girls Day.  Not sure if we will go to the swimming pool or just hang out but it will be tons of fun.  She is awesome!
Everything seems to be fine at home in Texas.  Craig is doing well but misses us!  We wish he was here with us right now.  But, I know he has to make money so that he can build his little girl a swing set!!!
Well, I better get started on dinner.  I'll write soon.  Take care and thanks for all the emails - they are great!!!!
Keep all of us that are here in Ukraine adopting in your prayers!!!!
Love all of you!
Becca and Molly

August 17, 2004 - Hi Family and Friends!  Well, Molly finally said "Mama" to me 5 times yesterday- perfectly!  It was great.  I told her Good Job (in Russian) and she clapped for herself!  She is just so funny.  I've posted some more photos online for you to see.  She just gets cuter and cuter each time I go see her!
Things are going well here.  I go to the orphanage everyday, come home, eat, and watch the Olympics.  I'm not sure if they are taped delayed in the States but if they are, I can tell you who wins the gold each time. :)
Brooke's grandmother is doing better.  She was sitting up asking for chicken and dumplings!  Thank you, Lord.  Also, Brooke and Aaron are in the process of adopting domestically. They are going with Lifetime Adoptions out of California.  They have a website on www.lifetimeadoptions.com - go to the state of Texas and you will see them - so, if you know of any birthmoms out there, please direct them to their site.  They are a wonderful couple!  Please don't email them from their site, as it goes to Lifetime rather than them.  However, if the birthmom is interested, just have them contact Lifetime directly.  I am praying really hard for them to have a child!!!!!!!
Craig is fine at home.  He misses us so much.  And, we miss him too.  Its tough being apart from one another for so long.  I am counting the hours until we get on the plane to Texas!!!
I am taking Molly out tomorrow with another girl and her daughter.  We plan on taking them to the park.  It should be alot of fun.  Then, on Thurday, my friend, Beth and I are going to have a Girls Day!  We may go to Bartholomeo's - the swimming pool place or just hang out in town.  Not sure but it will be fun!!!
Well, I need to get ready to head to the orphanage to see my baby!
Love to all of you!!!!  Becca and Molly
GO USA AND UKRAINE in the Olympics!!!!

August 16, 2004 - Well, I haven't been able to get on this site for 4 days.  Not sure what the deal is, but I am finally able to post.
Alot has happened since my last post with Jenya.  She stayed with me for two days and in that time, the couple from Canada contacted me.  They have actually been following our story and didn't know I had even met Jenya.  I received an email and then a phone call from them.  Like I said in my post earlier, I didn't know the complete story.  But, come to find out, they had a worse nightmare than I could have ever imagined.  They almost lost all three girls and needed to leave the country.  They tried and tried to adopt Jenya but they were not able to obtain a copy of the death certificate of Jenya's biological father.  Its impossible to get!  Anyway, they love her so much.  They try to contact her, but its nearly impossible at times.  So, I just believe that its by the grace of God that she found my website.  I believe that God orchestrated the meeting of Jenya and I so that she could talk to her parents in Canada.  I've spoken with them alot this weekend and come to find out, they love her so much.  They still consider her their daughter and they are trying everything to get her to come to Canada.  So, I am so thankful that they contacted me through email.  Thank you Lord!
Molly is doing fine.  I didn't go see her yesterday - Sunday is my day off.  Well, my driver doesn't work on Sundays so its really his day off.  But, I plan on going to see her at 1PM today.  I'm sure she is just fine.  I can't wait for that day when I go see her at the orphanage for the last time and get to take her with me!!!!!  Jenya and I went on Saturday and it was storming outside.  We had to sit inside the entire time and it was quite boring for the girls.  I could just sit there and stare at Molly but I know that's boring for her.
I was able to spend time with Beth yesterday, the missionary from Texas.  She and I had a great lunch and then walked back to her apartment.  It is so wonderful to be able to spend some "girl" time with a girl from Texas!!!  She has been going through some things here, just alot of frustration that comes with mission work.  Just say a quick prayer for her!  She is doing so much in the lives of these students.
Craig is safe at home and even got to go fishing this weekend.  I am so glad that he was able to get away and release some of the stress from being in another country.  He even caught what he called a MONSTER Red Fish!  All is well at our home. My mother has taken such good care of things while we have been over here!
Please, please, please - pray for my best friend's grandmother, Mary Lyssy.  She suffered a stroke this past weekend while Brooke was watching after her.  She is originally from Poland and is just the most amazing woman.  I was able to spend some time with her last year and she taught Brooke and I how to make kolaches.  I asked her if I could be her adopted grand-daughter and she said "of course!"  She has prayed and prayed all her life for a peaceful death.  If its in His will that she go home to be with Him, I pray for a peaceful death.  Please keep her in your prayers.  Please keep Brooke in your prayers too, I can't imagine how traumatic it was to be there when she had the stroke!  I love you, Brooke!  Tell Grandma I love her too!
My Uncle Johnny is out of the hospital.  So, thank you for your prayers!  Michael and Cristi survived Hurricane Charley!  So much has happened while I've been here!
Well, I better go.  Love you guys and thanks for all the emails and words of encouragement!  Becca and Molly

August 12, 2004 - Today is Molly's 19 month old birthday and she got a special treat.  She went to her first ever McDonald's!  She also ate her first french fry!  It was so cute and I got tons of photos!  We went with Dennis (our facilitator) and Jenya - she is a 15 year old orphan.  Who, by the way, could be a model!  She is absolutely gorgeous!  We took Jenya shopping and Molly was fabulous!  She fell asleep twice in the baby carrier and was happy ALL DAY LONG!  I don't think she cried once.  She ate two huge jars of baby food and could have eaten more!  She was exhausted on the way home in our taxi and fell asleep once more.  Long day for her but it was great to have her out.  We took her to the neatest park -its actually called Central Park!  It has a pond with paddle boats, carnival type rides and beautiful roses!  I plan to take her next Wednesday to another park and maybe swimming!
It has been laid on my heart to reach out to Jenya - the 15 year old orphan.  Dennis has pretty much taken her in as his little sister.  He cares for her so much!  She was abandoned when her parents died of either AIDS/drug or alcohol addiction - not sure.  Anyway, she lived with two other girls and a Canadian missionary family (not the one I am staying with).  Anyway, they wanted to adopt all 3 girls but apparently, Jenya was not available at the time.  This was May and she would be available in August (this was about 2 years ago).  Anyway, the family didn't feel led to adopt her.  I don't know their side of the story so I won't elaborate.  Regardless, Jenya was left behind.  To her, she has been abandoned twice.  When she was taken to the orphanage the first time, apparently they shaved her head!  She was mistreated until taken in by this missionary family.  The orphanage she lives in now is a nice one.  It was the one I visited yesterday.  Anyway, I have been led to reach out to her. Honestly, I would take her home in a heartbeat but Craig and I haven't really talked about that.  We have talked about her coming over and living with a family while being a foreign exchange student.  But, there are some concerns - one being her beauty!  The others - we don't know where she is spiritually and when she came to the US - she could go wild.  She would be a novelty over in the States.  She speaks increbile English!  She has been invited to go to a Christian camp on Sunday and she is pretty excited.  I bought her some makeup, a backpack and some clothes today for the camp.  She looked so adorable!  She is also staying with me tomorrow night as well as Saturday night.  She helped me with Molly today and she did a great job! My heart breaks for little Jenya.  I want her to have a much better life than the one she has here in Ukraine.  She is smart and has the cutest personality.  Please keep her in your prayers!!!!!!!  How rejected she must feel at this moment.
Thank you in advance for the prayers!
While we are on praying - keep my brother, Michael and his wife Cristi in them as well.  They live in Key West and should be getting Hurricane Charley tomorrow.  The tourists were asked to leave the island and most of the residents are staying there.  Just pray for safety!!!!
Well, I must run.  I am worn out from today!!!  Craig made it home safely to Texas!  I just can't wait to join him!  I love you all so much!
Also - pray for my friend, Becca and her husband, Jon. They are here in Ukraine and will meet 15 month old twin boys on Monday!
Becca and Molly

August 11, 2004 - Hey Everyone!  How are things in your world?  Things are well here in Ukraine.  I am so excited as I get to take Molly from the orphanage for the first time tomorrow.  We met with the Director this afternoon (she has been on vacation for over a month) and she said it was fine to take her from 9-5.  I think I'll take her to the park, the zoo and then to get ice cream at McDonalds!  I just wish Craig was here to take part in the fun!  I will be able to take her twice a week as long as Dennis is with me.  Next week, I think I'll take her to Bartholomew's - its the country club type place with a swimming pool.  I think she'll love the sun.  I'll first need to find SPF 50 for her - she's white as a ghost!  I'll need to find a swimsuit for her as well even though most children swim naked.  Not my baby!
I am learning so much here in Ukraine.  I have learned that I want for nothing.  I have everything that I need and I am so blessed.  We were visited by a man tonight that is originally from Nigeria.  He is married to a Ukrainian woman and they have 3 children.  He can't find work here because they treat him so poorly.  They will actually tell him to get out of a seat on the bus because the seats are for humans, not monkeys!  Alot of people here believe in evolution so therefore, think that the black man came from a monkey.  Its just heartbreaking!  I can't believe that people think like that!  Anyway, he was able to get enough money to purchase a heater for his family.  However, now he needs money to get the pipes put in so the heater will work. He is trying to do this before winter hits and his family freezes (literally to death!).  He is trying to get to England where Roland can get him a job.  However, the British Embassy is not wanting to give him a visa because of his color as well.  Its just a devastating story.  He came asking for help and Roland is not able to help him financially right now.  I just wanted to give him all the money I had on me but I know I can't.  He really is worried that his family will freeze if the heater is not put in before winter.  Please keep this family in your prayers - his name is Louis (Lewis).  My heart just breaks for people - we have it so well where I live.  I'll never complain about my home, my car, my clothes, or any of my situations.  I have no idea what's its like to live in poverty.  I have no idea what its like to go hungry!  If I don't eat, its my choosing not because the food is not there.  This country is all about relationships!  They live simple lives and they cherish the times with their families and friends.  Even though some people treat others unjustly, most of the people here know how to love!  I've been reading alot of Max Lucado's books while here.  I just finished, "Its Not About Me" and I'm in the middle of "A Love Worth Giving."  I've learned through my experience here that it isn't about me.  I complained about being here for so long but if I never would have come here, I never would have been able to see how these people radiate God's love.  I never would have met Anita and Roland and seen Jesus through them.  It worries me that so many people on the Internet bash this region.  They warn others not to come here!  But, what about the children?  So what, you are inconvenienced for a little while, put through what you think (or what I thought)  was a nightmare.  But, what about the children that are left behind?  I visited an older children orphanage today.  The kids range from 5-18.  I was in the room with the 5-8 year olds.  I could have stayed in there ALL day!  They kept calling my name "Becca" "Becca" "Becca" - they just wanted someone to touch them, someone to play with them, someone to look at their photo albums, someone to just pay attention to them.  They say here that if a child is over the age of 4, their chances of being adopted are slim to none.  It makes me want to go back home, redo our paperwork and come right back over.  A week ago, those words would never have come out of my mouth!  But, God changes even the hardest of hearts!  I plan to visit that orphanage again and play with them as long as they will play with me!
Well, I've written so much and I'm sure your tired of reading.  Please keep Louis (Lewis) and his family in your prayers.  Keep my Uncle Johnny in your prayers as well as he has suffered a stroke.  Pray for all the teachers and students as they prepare to begin a new school year.  Pray for the children of Ukraine - I pray that more people will be led to adopt from here.  Pray for those in Sudan as well as Turkey - they have had a devastating week!
Sending prayers and love your way from Ukraine!
Becca and Molly and (Craig via US.)

August 10, 2004 - Good Morning from Ukraine!  Well, things are just about the same here.  I am still living with Anita and Roland.  She cooks for us every night and Craig told me not to get used to it!  He doesn't want me spoiled when I get home.  Things are great.  Molly is great!  She was in the best mood yesterday.  She was kissing all the photos that I brought with me.  She kept kissing Chase for some reason - I think its because we keep telling her that this is her boyfriend!  I guess I better stop that - bad Mommy!  Anyway, my driver is awesome.  His name is Sergei and he is a Christian.  He used to work with street kids in getting them off the street and witnessing to them.  He is going to be such an asset for me here.  I won't have to worry about taking public transportation and he has been on time for everything.  God really has blessed us with so many people here - it will be hard to leave!
Craig is still in Kiev.  He is trying to get a flight out.  We had a return ticket but our travel agent is the only one that can apply it to another ticket.  She can't get him out until August 28th!  So, he is having to resort to purchasing another one way ticket to NY.  He'll stay there and try to fly out on Southwest or another carrier.  Poor guy!  Its very busy over here with tourists (especially leaving from Germany) so the summer books up pretty bad.  I don't think I'll have the same issue since I am coming home in September!
Please pray for my Uncle Johnny.  He is my grandmother's brother in Mississippi.  He suffered a stroke yesterday and is in ICU.  There is some bleeding in the brain but he is coherent.  I'll update as soon as I know something.
Well, I better run.  Just a quick note to let you know how things are going.  Please pray for my friends, Becca and Jon.  They arrived in Kiev yesterday and their appointment is on the 11th with the National Adoption Center.  Take care everyone and we'll see you guys soon!
LOVE YOU - Becca and Molly

August 7, 2004 - Well, Craig surprised me with a special treat last night.  He rented us a room at the Grand Hotel in downtown Dnepropetrovsk.  We had massages, sat in the sauna and steam room (no bana, Greg and Aaron!).  We then ate a great steak dinner (real steak from the US) and had a very relaxing evening.  We then got up and had room service for breakfast!  It was incredible.  This place is awesome and they treat us like royalty!!!!  He wanted to do something special since he is leaving for Kiev tonight on the night train.  He plans to visit the US Embassy on Monday and leave sometime Monday night or Tuesday.
I am moving in with Anita and Roland today.  I am excited.  They are so wonderful and they have a sidewalk market outside their apartment where people sell fresh fruits and vegetables.  They live right across the street from McDonald's and a huge grocery store (well, Ukraine standards).  I won't be by myself and I am in a safe place.  They have tons of books and videos in English so I won't be bored at all.  They have a van but we are hiring a driver for me to take me to and from the orphanage.  That way I don't have to use public transportation and totally rely on Anita and Roland.  Just call me "Driving Ms. Daisy!"
Molly is doing fine.  She didn't eat much yesterday and got stung my something on her finger.  Its like they performed surgery on her and rapped this huge bandage just for a bee sting.  She did eat for me but it was Cherrios!  She is getting excited about coming home. The caregivers are so excited.
Well, we are going to shop at an outlet place and then go to Predniprovsk to see our baby.  Daddy is going to spend some alone time with her this afternoon.  But, I'll be waiting in the bushes just in case she throws a fit.
If you want to see where we stayed, visit the website of the Grand Hotel. www.grand-hotel-ukraine.dp.ua
Love to all of you. Thanks for all the great emails.  On four of the emails it said the same thing - PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!  Its great to be a member of the family of God!  We love all of you!  Becca, Craig and Molly!

August 5, 2004 - "We name Craig Alan Hill and Amy Rebecca Hill the parents of Molly issued by the Court of Ukraine!" Those were the words we heard today!  She is ours!  Court started at 3:28 PM - the prosecutor was not there and the judge asked Dennis to go pick her up.  She came in and actually started talking to the ladies behind us.  She seemed to be in a good mood.  Court began with the judge reading the documents that we had submitted earlier today.  The letters from the US Embassy, the letters from Dib Waldrip and Carter Casteel, updated NAC letters with my corrected name and others.  Once that was done, the questioning began.  Craig was questioned first by the prosecutor.  She asked him questions like about our finances, our family, the health of the child and pretty much grilled him for 30 minutes!  He answered everything perfectly!  I was so proud of him.  The prosecutor even smiled at times when Craig answered.  Then, it was my turn.  I just took a deep breath and said "Be yourself!"  She asked me about my job, if I was aware of the medical diagnosis of Molly, and then she told me to describe Molly.  That's when everything seemed to just fall into place.  I told about her finding her toes, the fact that she loves Cheerios and yogurt and that she says a few words.  I said that she was quite strong willed and that I have grown to love her so very much.  She then asked why I adopted a child with medical problems (even though we know she is healthy) and I told her that I would rather adopt a child that I can provide medical attention too that would not get it here in Ukraine.  She then told the judge she had no further questions.  It was great!  Then, the lady from the NAC stood up and told them that we have followed all the necessary steps to adopt and that its in the best interest of the child that the Hill family adopt her.  Then, the lady from the Minister of Education basically said the same thing.  Then, the lady from the orphanage got up and went on and on about Molly and told them that she had seen a huge difference in her since we've been there.  She said that Molly is so very happy and that she recognizes us as Mommy and Daddy.  She said that the orphanage feels we are the best interest of the child.  Then, it was the prosecutor's turn - my hands began to sweat!  She said we have submitted all the necessary paperwork to her and that based on what she has heard today and the testimony given, it would be in the best interest of the child to be adopted by the Hill family.  HUGH RELIEF!  Then, the judge asked us to stand and wanted to know if we wanted to change anything or add to anything that had been submitted or said in court.  We said no, we just want to adopt Molly.  So, she said "I will name Craig Alan Hill and Amy Rebecca Hill parents to Molly by the Court of Ukraine.  The final court decree to be picked up 30 days from today."  So, the 30 days were not waived but I am perfectly okay with that!  I am just so thankful that she is ours!!!!  Court was over at 5:00 PM.  The prosecutor even shook my hand and took a photo with us.  She was smiling and I kept saying "Spasibo" which is "Thank you."
We then left and went to visit Molly.  She is not feeling well.  She has an upset tummy.  They thought I fed her something last night but nope, it wasn't my fault.  Atleast not this time.  Anyway, she wasn't herself at all but we just loved and loved on her so much.  I'm sure she wondered why we were acting like that.  The caregivers were so excited for us!  They hugged us and were talking so fast in Russian/Ukrainian - we had no idea what they were saying.  But, they were happy!
We then went downtown to celebrate at our favorite pizza place - Metropole.  We took Edward, Dennis, Anita and Roland with us.  It was awesome!
Craig plans to return to the US and he may have to come back to pick up Molly with me.  We are waiting to talk to the orphanage director about that.  But, he plans to go to Kiev on Sunday and be at the Embassy on Monday to sign some paperwork.  It looks like I will possibly move in with Anita and Roland and hire a driver to take me too and from the orphanage.  They have a Christian taxi driver that lives in their building. They live in a very safe place and it will be good to have them there with me.  So, it looks as if all this will work out.  I will be able to pick Molly up on the 6th of September.  I will pick up the court decrees and get her birth certificate and necessary documents from the region and hopefully, I will be on my way to Kiev by the 7th or 8th.  Then, to the US Embassy to get her passport and visa to come home.  I will most likely travel on the 11th or 12th.  I am so excited that I think I've probably made many typos/mistakes in this journal entry.
Like I've said before, I can't begin to thank all of you for everything you have done.  My friends in New Braunfels that have worked night after night and day after day getting us the necessary documents.  Teresa Fillmon with His Kids Too got up at 3 AM and got on her knees praying.  I have received so many emails where people were praying all day and had friends/family members that we don't even know praying for us.  When my sister in law heard the news - she was at VBS with 1800 people and she shared it with everyone!  We have some amazing friends and we consider those of you we don't even know friends!  We will cherish our time here for the rest of our lives!   We can't say "thank you" enough!
We love all of you so much!  I will try to post photos from the court hearing later.  We need to get home and get some sleep - we are all so tired!
Thanks to Edward and Dennis - they stayed up so late last night translating documents and then worked until a few minutes before the court hearing translating a letter we received in regards to the Social Worker issue from Dib Waldrip (our District Attorney)!  Hey Dib - we promise to work hours upon hours on your re-election campaign!!!!!!
Molly thanks you from the bottom of her heart too.  Without each and every one of you and the many different types of support - we could never have made it!
With love from Ukraine! Becca, Craig and MOLLY REBECCA HILL!!!!!!!
Birthdate 1-12-03

August 4, 2004 - Well, I haven't written in a few days and I've already gotten emails asking "what's up!"  So, I apologize to those that are finding my writings so entertaining.  That warms my heart!  Well, things are continually hitting us like a brick wall but every time a brick wall is built, God seems to take a jackhammer and knock it down.  I'm not sure what is going to happen in all of this but I do know that God does things for His Glory.  They may not be the way that I would have done them but then again, I'm not Him.  I am reading an amazing book that has helped me the last day or so.  Its by Philip Yancey "Reaching an Invisible God"  He talks about doubting God because we can not physically reach out and touch Him.  He talks about doubting as a common thing and Yancey himself doubts too.  But, its through the doubting, that we have faith.  God promises us that things won't be easy but in that same promise, He promises to remain with us.  I laid awake all night last night praying to Him.  I don't know what He is doing but I have to trust Him.  Even if He chooses to keep Molly in Ukraine, I have to be obedient and trust that His way is perfect.  I may not "feel" like trusting Him but if I act in obedience to trusting Him, the feeling will come later.  He is revealing Himself to me in ways I never thought through the readings of this book.  The book has made me question things and myself as to why I believe the way I do.  The most important thing is that I love Him, I trust Him, and I long to be with Him.  Even if my heart is broken in this process, it is Him that can mend it.  He is the Mighty Comforter!
Our friends and family in the US have gone to the extremes in getting us the necessary documents that we need by the Ukraine government.  I will never be able to repay them for their time, their money, and their frustrations.  I have two very special friends, Laura and Brooke, that spent the day in Austin trying to retrieve documents.  There are state agencies out there that were not helpful and caused them great frustration.  No one wants to take ownership of the social workers authority even though there is a code out there that clearly states it.  However, after much research, emails back and forth, phone calls in the middle of the night - I think we are on the way to getting what we need.  There are two very special ladies in Austin, Liz and Joan, that have worked so hard in obtaining the Occupations Code as well as the Human Resources Code for us.  We have them and they are on their way to the US Embassy.  In the meantime, we have contacted our Representative, Carter Casteel and District Attorney, Dib Waldrip who have helped tremendously.  We have received many emails from people we don't know that are trying to help us in any way that we can.  There is a guy who adopted from this region helping to prepare a letter to the courts here on our behalf.  I can't begin to even list all the people that are helping us.  Our hearts are truly overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support of all of you.  I have received emails from people that have adopted from here and know the very frustrations that we are dealing with right now.  It helps to hear that they are safe and sound with their children in the US and in Canada.
We have been so blessed while we have been here with the outpouring of the people of Ukraine.  Everyone is willing to help us in any way possible.  Everyone has been patient with us whether it is the pharmacist, a taxi driver, or the lady at the grocery store.  For that, we thank the Lord that they have found favor with us.
Our court date is tomorrow, August 5th at 3 PM.  That will be 7AM CST.  We are asking each of you to pray and pray hard!  God can do the most amazing things!  He used to move mountains!!!  He still heals, He still softens hearts, He still performs miracles we may never see.  He is still God!
About Molly - well, she is learning new things each and every day.  Yesterday, she was playing with my toes.  So, I took her shoes and socks off - I don't think she has ever seen her toes. They wear onesies with feet in them and that is all the time regardless if its 100 degrees.  Anyway, she started feeling her toes and laughing.  I would ask her where are Mommy's toes and she would grab my toes and then I would ask her where are Molly's toes and she would grab her toes.  She was just cute as she could be.  Her favorite book is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" given to us by Aunt Brooke.  She reads it everyday.  Well, we read it.  Actually, we have it memorized.  Everytime we start to read it, she dances.  It has a catchy rhyme to it and she loves to dance.  But yesterday, I told her to kiss the bear and she did - in English!  Then she wanted to kiss ALL the page and ALL the animals.  It was the cutest thing I have ever seen!!!  Of course, we didn't have the camera ready!  We love her so much and long to have her in our home in Texas!
Last night, it stormed worse than it has since we've been here.  It literally stormed with thunder/lightning for 7 HOURS!  It was amazing - I'm surprised the Dnipro river didn't flood!  So, we stayed in last night and tried to eat pasta with Parmesan cheese - it was horrible so I retreated to Nestle Chocolate Ice Cream!  Today it is storming again so we were not able to go see Molly this morning.  We had a TON of work/research to do at the Internet so we will miss our 1 PM visit as well.  But, we should get to see her tonight at 5.  That is when she is at her best anyway.
Well, Craig and I were able to spend time at Barthlomeo's on Monday.  We really felt as if we were somewhere in the Caribbean.  Its a swimming pool that you pay to use for the day.  You can have lunch and just relax in the sun.  Our missionary friends took us and boy did we need it.  We just needed a place to revive ourselves.  It has helped us to get away from reality, even if just for the day.  We are so thankful for a place such as that and plan on taking Dennis there next week.
Well, its beginning to storm again and I am worried about losing connection and losing this information.
Keep praying is all I can ask of each of you reading this!  If each of you could be on your knees at 7 AM CST in the morning, I would greatly appreciate it.
We love each of you so much.  I hope I haven't completely bored you with all this writing.
Love in Christ - Becca, Craig and Molly
PS - Thank you Brooke for the late night long long long phone call - it raised my spirits!  Thank you Laura and your parents for their hard work too and you can call me at 2:30 AM anytime.

August 1, 2004 - Hello from the HOT Ukraine!  It is amazingly hot for some reason.  Its not usually like this but of course, since we are here with no A/C - its hot!  Anyway, we were able to go to a lake yesterday which was very nice.  We went with Anita and Roland to a place they call "Blue Lakes."  Its very clean and very nice.  There was a group of students out there celebrating a few birthdays.  They were cooking out and swimming.  Made me feel like I was at home in Canyon Lake!  It was nice and relaxing and a much needed break from what we have been going through.
We have had an outpouring of support from the US in regards to the issues we are having over here.  I have been contacted by so many people and its amazing how everyone wants to help.  I can't express enough of my gratitude to each and every one of you!!!  Our District Attorney in New Braunfels wrote a letter to the judge and prosecutor as well as the a representative of our district.  We also have someone working on a letter from the Texas State Board of Social Workers.  With all of this, we are hoping the prosecutor will be satisfied.  If not, we will have to take other measures.  Just keep us in your prayers.
Molly is doing great.  She is still a little under the weather but she was in great spirits this morning.  You give the child Cherrios and she's fine.  She can't wait to come home!!!!
I woke up to a great phone call this morning.  My dad, my stepmother, my two brothers and my sister in law called me from Orlando.  It was 1 AM their time.  It was great to hear their voices.  When we get calls from home, it offers so much encouragement.  We know that we will be home soon.  I also got two calls yesterday from dear friends just to check on us.  Thank you Grace and Heidi!!!
Last night we went to a restaurant called Bartholomeo's - its a retreat!  Its in a big ship and the food is excellent.  We ordered steak - which you don't get over here very often.  They also have a swimming pool.  Tomorrow we plan on taking advantage of that!  The place is very similar to a country club in the states.  But, you pay each time you go rather than a monthly fee.  Its very nice and when you are there - its like you are in the Caribbean somewhere!  Definitely a break from reality.  And, Craig and I need a break!
Well, I hope all of you are doing well.  Thanks again Mom, Brooke, Ginger, Deanna, Dib, Grace, Carter, Brenda, Shannon, Gigi, and the rest of you that have been working so hard on our behalf in the US!  You have no idea how much we appreciate your efforts.  We will be home soon.  Just maybe not as soon as we had hoped.  But, God allows things to happen for a reason and we have to trust that He knows exactly what He is doing!  Love you all!  Becca, Craig, and Molly!

July 30, 2004 - Well, we had our court date but its not much to tell except that we are in the same mess that we were in yesterday.  We were there at 9:30 AM for our hearing and they asked us our names, dates of birth and occupations.  Then, they ask for the translated documents of the ones we were requested to have and that had not been done yet.  So, those must be done.  We are still waiting on the Fed Ex'd documents from the States as well as the documents from the Embassy and the NAC.  We have no idea if we will get those soon or not. Edward flew to Kiev today and won't return until those documents are in his hands.  We still have the issue with the Social Worker License.  We had a letter written by our attorney stating that our Social Worker has the authority to conduct home studies but that wasn't good enough for the prosecutor.  We then contacted the US Embassy and requested their help.  Apparently, the can't intervene but we can go to the Court above this one.  At this point, we are willing to do anything.  My mom contacted the Texas Board of Social Workers and they were not able to tell her who governs home studies done by social workers.  Amazing, isn't it?  A state agency can't tell us who governs home studies done by the very people that they license.  That one document could keep us from not bringing Molly home.  I just don't know what to do at this point.  I am asking for help from anyone.  If there is anyone out there that knows a US Representative, a Texas State representative, anyone that could write a letter stating that our Social Worker is licensed to do Home Studies.  There is supposedly nowhere in law that states they have that authority.  Our poor Social Worker is just beside herself.  Its not her fault and I hope that she understands that.  So many people are trying to help us and we appreciate it greatly.  I never in a million years thought that this would be this hard.  There are so many people praying for us that I can tell it makes a difference.  I got my crying over with today and Craig said - this has been the longest labor anyone has had to go through!  He is so right.  But, I know that it will be worth it.  I just have to vent every once in awhile.  Some ladies have been in contact with me that adopted here earlier this year.  Their help has been tremendous.
Well, I will get off my negativity and talk about Molly.  We did go see her today and she was just precious.  She loves Cherrios!  So, I'm sure we will keep General Mills in business.  She has a TERRIBLE rash on her back and bottom and she has a bad cold.  We took her to the orphanage doctor and got the royal treatment.  They are so wonderful here!  They put this spray on her rash and then put a solar light on her.  It was an instrument donated by the Swiss. It was the coolest thing and within an hour, the rash was so much better.  The doctor gave us prescriptions for her cold and she is on her way to feeling better.  When we look at her, we just know that she is the reason we are here.  She is worth the fight and we will fight it to the end.  We love her so much!!!!!  She is our little world right now.  Well, I can't believe its the weekend.  The time has flown here but I am so ready to come home.  Thank you for all your sweet emails and words of encouragement.  I can't write everyone back but I do love each and every one of you - even those I've never met!!!!
Have a great weekend!!!!

July 29, 2004

Hi Gang,

Well, in one of my journals, I talked about The Eye of the Storm - well, we are there!  We need your prayers right now!  Our court date is scheduled for tomorrow and the prosecutor that we were so worried about, well, she has struck!  She is now requiring additional documents.  Some of them are in the US!  So, we are rushing to get them sent to us.  We have been on the phone with the US Embassy and many of our friends and family back home.  Our medical form had a typo so that has to be redone and Fed Ex'd.  The police clearance letter expired yesterday for me, so my mom rushed to Austin this morning to obtain that and will Fed Ex that as well.  Also, our social worker must get information from the Texas State Board that says she has authority to do home studies for international adoptions.  This has never been required before.  This lady beats all I've ever seen!  Then, our largest problem is a mistake that the NAC made.  They used my maiden name in their paperwork.  So, the prosecutor does not think that Amy Rebecca Hill and Amy Rebecca Robinson are the same person!!!  The US Embassy wrote a letter stating that the US identifies me as the same person but she won't accept that!!  So, we have to redo ALL of our documents and the NAC must redo ALL of theirs.  This will take 1-5 days.  But, the director of the NAC likes to take 5 days if not more!  So, our court date will take place tomorrow at 9:30 AM rather than 2 PM.  They will accept faxed copies of our documents from the States but our adoption will not be final until ALL documents from the US and the NAC are on their desks.  That could be next week or the following week.  Now the judge is nervous about waiving the 30 days and will most likely not waive them.  So, I'll be here until the first part of September!  My first reaction was to sit and cry on the floor.  Edward was really worried about me and thought I was depressed.  I went to visit Molly shortly after my breakdown and I looked into her eyes and started crying again.  I told her that we had run into some problems but she was worth it.  I would wait until December and I would fight anyone to get her.  She is our daughter!

Its easy to get mad and I was there earlier but it doesn't help.  Getting mad doesn't change things.  So, we've calmed down.  I think the fact that so many people are praying for us right now makes a huge difference.  We aren't sure why things are happening the way they are but they are.  We aren't sure why God is allowing this to happen but He is.  Like I've said from the beginning, He is in control!

Well, I need to run.

Update on the Lockhart's - they are headed back to Kiev to get another referral for another child.  The one here is not working out.  It could take months and months to get the mother to sign another letter of rejection.  Please keep them in your prayers!

I love you guys!

Becca
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAYLA ANN EMERSON!!!!!

July 28, 2004 - WELL - WE HAVE A COURT DATE!!!!!  Its Friday at 2 PM.  That is 6 AM Central Standard Time.  So, we are asking that you set your clocks at that time and pray for us.  We don't know anymore on the situation with the 30 days.  Dennis is supposed to talk to the judge again today or tomorrow.  She was busy today and could not ride with him to the Court of Appeals.  She said she would rather tomorrow.  With Dennis being so patient with her, maybe she will be nice to him and us!  He did tell her the other day that we've been here almost a month and she asked "why".  He told her that Craig was suffering from severe allergies and needed to return to the US.  She was understanding.  So, we'll see!
The 30th of July is not only our court date but the 2nd anniversary of our first miscarriage.  Isn't it just amazing how God works.  First we meet Molly on the due date of our second child and then to have our court date on the anniversary of the death of the first.  God's plan is perfect.  Though at times we may not see what He is doing, He is always in control.  He doesn't want what's good for us, He wants what is best for us!  His way is PEFECT!  We may look at struggles in our lives and say "Its not fair!"  But, what a joy it is when we can look back on those times and be thankful to Him that we went through them.  God is good!
Well, Molly does have a cold.  So, please pray that she is better.  If we are granted custody of Molly on Friday and the 30 days are waived, we will travel to Kiev.  We make an appointment with the US Embassy to have her US Passport done.  The appointment takes about 3 days to get.  So, if that is the case and we can't meet until middle of next week, we will stay here and say our goodbyes to our great friends that we have met.  If the 30 days are not waived, then Craig will make plans to come home and I'll start the 30 day wait with many friends over here.  There are so many people that are willing to stay with me every minute of the day.  Its awesome!
The reason for the 30 days is that someone can appeal during that time the decision of the judge.  There have been cases where someone has appealed but the couple took it to the Supreme Court of Ukraine and they won.  We hope and pray that the relationship that Dennis has built will prevent that from happening.  We can also call a US representative to come over and plead our case.  But, we just don't think that will happen.  God has brought us too far.  He is taking care of us every minute of the day.
The couple from Missouri that we've been hanging out with has had a really bad time.  The birthmother originally said she would not give up her rights, then she agreed to do so.  She signed a rejection letter in front of a notary last Friday.  Now, she has gone to the orphanage and told them she was forced to sign it and now wants custody of her child.  The Lockhart's are devastated. They are planning on fighting back but you just never know in this country.  Dennis went to talk to her last night and she is pretty sure she wants to keep the child.  Please pray for Al and Charlotte Lockhart!
Well, we need to run down and do some shopping.  Again, we would appreciate your prayers at 6 AM on Friday morning or at 7 AM if you are on the East Coast.  Wherever you are - your prayers are needed and greatly appreciated!
We love all of you!  Craig, Becca and Molly

July 27, 2004 - Hi Friends and Family!  Well, we don't have any news yet.  Dennis picked up the last bit of paperwork from this region and is delivering it to the judge either this morning or afternoon.  Edward is in Kiev picking up the paperwork from the NAC this morning and he will be headed this way this evening by train.  He won't arrive until 3 AM but then we should all be going to visit the judge tomorrow.  Hopefully, she will agree to have court tomorrow but she could make us wait a couple of days.  It depends on if she has been able to take our documents home to review them.  She is pretty busy during the day to read over them.  So, maybe we will know something today or tomorrow.  Everyone here says they feel really good about her waiving the 30 days but I just don't want to get my hopes up.  I know that God can do anything.  He softened Pharoah's heart and He can soften hers.  We aren't sure if we are going to give her the letter from us.  We plan on talking to Dennis more about that.  Since he has such a good rapport with her, we will go with his advice.  I appreciate all the prayers - they have kept us so calm here.  We actually like it here now and it will be hard to leave.  We have met some awesome people!  We could live here and actually enjoy the simplicity of life here.  We had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants last night - its called Melrose Place.  They have what they call "American" food.  It is but alittle different!  They have hamburgers but I'm not so sure that I wasn't eating a Soy Cheeseburger last night.  I put lots of pepper, salt and Tabasco on it.  It did taste better.  Then, we had Mozarella sticks - they were awesome and tasted just like the ones at Chili's!  I could make a meal out of it!  Molly was quiet yesterday.  She sneezed four times - that was the first time I've heard her sneeze!  It was so cute but I do hope she is not catching a cold.  While I had her last night, my great friend, Laura, called.  It was so exciting to see her number come up on caller ID.  You have no idea what its like to hear people from home!!!!  Its so refreshing and the feeling lasts a long time.  Thanks Laura!  Glad to know things are going well at home.  Glad to know that people are taking care of our home and my mother!  I'm sure she appreciates it greatly!  Its very hot here today so we aren't getting a break from the Texas heat from over here!!!  We are next to a large river and so the humidity is really high.  I asked what the orphanage needed and they gave me some ideas just in case any of you have these things laying around...  Desitin and baby shoes.  Well, sizes 3 and up.  I was telling them about garage sales and how you can get pretty good looking shoes for $.25 or so.  I told them I would go back home and hit some of them and send them things.  So, if any of you like to garage sale, feel free to buy those items and I'll reimburse you when I get home.  I like to garage sale so it won't be an issue of me going. :)  Well, make sure you look at the photos on our website.  Brooke was able to download a beautiful photo that she created on there as well as enlarge the ones I placed on there a few days ago.  Thanks Brooke!  You are becoming quite the computer wiz!  Well, I better run.  I need to run and get yogurt for our baby.  SHE LOVES IT!  She is growing more and more each day and she is the most beautiful baby!  Okay - I'm alittle bias!  We love all of you - even those we've never met.  Your thoughts and prayers and words of encouragement are so appreciated!  Love to you all - Becca, Craig and Molly!

July 26, 2004 - Well, I wasn't able to write yesterday.  We visited Molly in the morning and spent the rest of the day with Anita and Roland.  There was a church service at the Alpha and Omega Student Center.  Michael Gott, a missionary from Texas, spoke and it was fantastic.  There were many people from America in the service yesterday.  Several from Texas and even one from Louisianna!  It was great to hear that Southern Drawl!  Anyway, they are here teaching English to Ukrainians and through that, they share the gospel.  Its pretty cool.  Anyway, it rained alot here yesterday and is expected to rain today.  Its 84 degrees but it feels like 100!  We ate at our Chinese restaurant that we like so much last night with Anita and Roland, the couple adopting from Missouri, their translator and driver, and Dennis.  It was great and it only took us close to 3 hours to eat!  But, it was a great meal.  Anita and Roland left today for Crimea to scout out the camp they will be going to next week.  Dennis left for a job interview so he won't be speaking to the judge today like we had hoped.  But, that's okay.  Edward is working hard in Kiev trying to get the remainder of our paperwork from the Embassy and the NAC.  So, he should have all the documents to us by Wednesday.  Its getting closer!  I can't believe we are starting our 4th week!  The time really has flown by - thank goodness!!!!  Another friend of mine adopting in Ukraine had her court date today for her two children and everything went fine.  They are headed back to Kiev and then home on Wednesday!  I am so happy for them.  They obviously did not adopt from this region. :)  We are doing well.  Just visiting our baby daily and getting to know more and more people here.  Everyone is so nice!!!!  We should know something this week about our court date and our 30 days.  We wrote a letter to the judge requesting that our 30 days is waived and Dennis will translate that when he returns tonight.  Maybe that will help things!!!   Well, yesterday was my Daddy's birthday!  Wish I could have been home for that.  We've missed 6 birthdays since we've been gone!!  I was able to talk to Daddy for 2 minutes on the phone yesterday and that was great!  I hope he had a great birthday!!!!  Well, I better run.  I need to run by the market and then to see Molly.  She should be finishing her lunch and ready to play!  Love to all of you!  I'll write more later.  Love - Becca, Craig and Molly

July 24, 2004 - Hi Gang!  Well, Craig did not have to fly to Kiev because Dennis has contacts!  That is a common theme here!  My friends in New Braunfels call me the Mayor because I tend to know everyone, well, Dennis is the Governor!  Anyway, he and Craig went to the airport and Dennis has a friend that works for Australian airlines.  He talked to him and that guy knew a girl flying to Kiev.  They paid the girl $10 and she delivered it to Edward.  Then, Edward took that to the NAC and should get their permission to start court on Monday.  In the meantime, Craig and Dennis went to two other buildings and got additional paperwork.  The same taxi driver that picked us up at 9 that morning took them all over the place yesterday!  He only charged them $40 for 8 hours of driving!  WOW - thank you God!  Only in Ukraine!  We then had dinner with Anita and Roland at their home and then to McDonald's for a McFlurry!!!!!  On Saturday, Craig and I found the same taxi driver from yesterday and he brought us to the Center of Dnipro.  We did some shopping and eating and now we are at the Christian Internet Cafe.  Its so cool to hear English Christian music while checking email!!!   We are really becoming Ukrainians!  But, we still miss home big time!  I am here trying to upload some photos and I sure hope it works this time!!!!  If not, I can send the ones I think are just precious!  Well, I better run.  I have to go see Molly in a little bit and don't have much time to write.  Love all of you!!!  Becca, Craig and Molly   PS - If anyone talks to my grandfather, Diddy - its his birthday!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIDDY From Ukraine!  Can someone call him and tell him I said that???  He doesn't have Internet!  Thanks!  OH - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY EMILY CAMPBELL!!!!!

July 23, 2004 - I can't believe we were supposed to be headed home today!  Well, who knows when we will head that way but I can tell you that since yesterday - things are moving God speed!  Okay - we went to the Chief Justice yesterday and of course, she remembered Dennis.  She told her secretary that she didn't need to meet with us and that she would assign a judge to our case without reading our paperwork - THAT IS A HUGE STEP BYPASSED!  Anyway, we met with the judge and Dennis said of all the judges - she is the best and nicest one!  Again, she remembered Dennis.  He brought her photos of the children that she helped to adopt!  She was pleased.  She looked at photos of Molly as well as photos of our home, our family, and our friends.  She gave us a list of documents that needed to be brought to the court.  She gave us the necessary paperwork to give to certain offices so that we can obtain that paperwork.  That normally takes days to get as well in this region.  But, she knew Dennis and she did it for him!  Thank you Lord for sending us Dennis at just the right moment.  So, the race began!  In the meantime, the couple we met from Missouri had run into a MAJOR problem.  The birthmother of their child decided not to give up her parental rights.  The couple's facilitator, Svetlana, had been there twice and once with a police officer.  The mother said no!  Anyway, we met them (the couple and Svetlana) at the Internet Cafe and Svetlana and Dennis went to visit the mother.  Dennis shared with her the photos of the children that were now adopted.  He asked her questions and really made her think about the decision she was making.  She is a drug addict.  So, the mother thought and decided to give up her rights!  YEAH - PRAISE GOD!  So, Dennis was able to help two families in one day.  Dennis also has been having financial trouble and was not able to afford some things.  So, when we gave him money for helping us, he said "God is so good, just when you think you are going bankrupt, He provides!"  So, he was taken care of yesterday but God providing work through us.  It was an amazing story!!!!    Well, this morning Dennis met us and we did some major document chasing.  He met with the judge again and told her that we were getting the necessary documents for her.  He also stated that we had been here so long and was there anyway she would waive the 30 days.  She told him that she would speak to him about it on Monday and she what she could do!  AMAZING - she didn't say NO!!!!  Anyway, God is so good.  I've said that so much lately but its truly what I feel and know!  He has taken care of us so  much and allowed us to see Him work in the lives of others around us.  Its just been absolutely the coolest thing we have gone through.  Craig is on his way by plane to Kiev to deliver documents to Edward.  Once those are submitted today, Edward can obtain the necessary paperwork from the NAC on Monday to allow the court to begin.  The judge said if we have all the documents by Wednesday, that she would have the court that day!  PRAISE GOD!!!!  Anyway, keep the prayers going!!!!!  They are obviously working!  We love each and everyone of you - even those we have never met!  Becca, Craig and Molly

July 22, 2004 - Well, Craig and I are becoming quite the Ukrainians!  We ventured out last night and went to the Big City by ourselves!  We took the little white mini van that is called a marshutka (that is not the correct spelling, I'm sure).  Anyway, we took the #134 to McDonald's!  I was even able to tell the driver where to stop.  Then, we walked across the street to Billa - the large grocery store that has everything!  When you cross the street, its like the game "Frogger" from the old Atari game!  Quite interesting!  Then, we bought our groceries and headed back on the #134 to our little town!  We made it there and back alive!  Edward was so proud of us!!!   We are headed to the Chief Justice today between 2-4 to see if she will hear our case and assign it to the judge.  Hopefully, this will get the ball rolling.  We have hired another facilitator while Edward is in Kiev.  He dropped off our paperwork there yesterday and hopes to get the final documents from the NAC within the next 5 days!  Which is longer than we had anticipated but we are getting used to that!!!!   We met another couple from Missouri.  They are adopting a 19 month old little girl that used to be in Molly's room.  She is precious!  They have 7 children and this will be the 8th.   Only 3 adopted!  They are really nice people and its good to hear English!!!!   Molly is doing great.  We got our photos developed yesterday ($2.00 a roll!!!) and she loved seeing herself!  We showed them to the caretakers and they thought she was just beautiful in them.  They love her so much!  She is definitely a favorite and she is well known for her little fits!  So much like her mother - right?  Well, keep us in your prayers this morning as we meet with the Chief Justice!  Its a scary thing but I'm sure we'll be just fine.  We love all of you so much!!!!  Becca, Craig and Molly

July 21, 2004 - Well, things are still moving pretty slow.  We went to the Chief Justice yesterday to deliver our paperwork and petition to adopt Molly. She would not see us.  We have to return on Thursday between the hours of 2-4.  At that time, she may decide to see us, ask us questions, and then assign a judge to our case.  Then, we must meet with that judge and then she/he will assign a court date.  There are other couples in our region that have already had their court date and have been here the same amount of time - so that was frustrating to hear.  However, we are no longer in control - well, we've never been actually!  Anyway, we know that God has us here for a reason and why, we aren't sure, but we have to trust Him.  This is not the worse thing we will go through in our lives.  We've enjoyed the down time.  I was able to wash clothes yesterday - that's a whole experience in itself!  And, we were able to sleep in and just relax.  I know that when I get home, there will be no time for that so I better enjoy it.  Right?  Edward is in Kiev submitting our things to the NAC.  He will hopefully be back in time to go to the Chief Justice with us on Thursday but if not, we have a back up plan.  We met a guy at church on Sunday, Dennis, that is an adoption facilitator in this region.  We are hopefully going to ask him to go with us.  He is familiar with this area and with the judges here.  So that is a plus!     Yesterday was fun - we took Molly to get her passport photo done - that was fun!  She has never been in a car so that was an experience for her.  She froze the whole time and placed her head on my chest.  When we got to the photo place, she threw a fit!  She did not want to sit in that chair by herself.  I'm telling you, she is dramatic like me!  Anyway, we had one of her caregivers there with us so she cooperated with her!  Her photos turned out great and that is one less thing we have to worry with.  Now if we could just get a court date and have atleast a time period of how long we will be here.  If the 30 days in not waived, then atleast I will have something to count down too.  At this point, I just don't know when we will be home.  I just can't wait to get there - I think I will kiss the ground of the US when I return.  There was an explosion in Ukraine yesterday at a methane gas mine.  It was very far from here so I just wanted to let all of you know that we were okay - just in case you heard about it on the news.  Well, I must run.  We are going to have our morning cappacino at our cafe with Anita - the missionary from Canada.  Hope to see all of you soon.  Tried to download photos on the website yesterday and still nothing.  Sorry!  Thanks to all of you who have written.  Thanks to all of you back home that are preparing our home for Molly!  We love you and miss you tons!!!!!  Becca, Craig and Molly

JUly 18, 2004 - In the eye of the storm - God is with you!  That is the sermon that we heard on Friday night given to a group of students that were about to lead small children at a Christian camp.  But, was that message only for the students?  Of course not - God wanted us there that night.  Though the drive was long to get there and the roads bad - He meant for us to be there!  And, I am so glad we were there!  God is good ALL THE TIME!  Roland, a pastor here in Ukraine, spoke to those students but I felt like God was speaking directly to me!  We are in the eye of the storm.  Our days are long here and there are so many frustrations - but our God is with us.  He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us and that means ALL THE TIME.  These missionaries have been incredible to us.  Our time here has been truly blessed.  We spent Friday night with them as well as some time on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday.  Friday was such a blessing to us but today, Sunday, was incredible!  We attended a Praise and Worship service at the Alpha and Omega Student Center.  It is filled with some incredible believers!  We sang in Russian but the songs were all too familiar!  They were American Praise and Worship songs in Russian - it was so cool!  To serve a God in another country is an amazing experience!!!!!!!  We were brought up to the pulpit area and "interviewed".  People clapped when they found out we were there to adopt!  After the service, we had so many people come up to us and offer their help!  It was amazing!  I have absolutely no concerns whatsoever on staying here!  Craig even said he could live here!  The sermon today was on doing what God sent us to do and that is to spread the hope of Him!  And, we could very well be here just to do that and that adopting Luba (Molly) is icing on the cake!  We are in great hands - the Lord's hands!  He is in control!  There is a missionary here from TEXAS!  It was great to talk Texan with her today!  Her name is Beth Wilson and she is an incredible person.  She has a car and has offered to come and pick me up at anytime!  There is also a lady here that is a grandmother and has offered to come go with me to the orphanage every day!  Her son adopted a child a few months ago and she too has suffered the deaths of 4 children.  Three miscarriages and one still birth. God placed her in my path today!  Right now we are at the home of the missionaries from Canada.  They are feeding us tonight and have been such an incredible inspiration to us!  They plan on taking us to a resort type place tomorrow for some relaxation!  That will be nice and great change of pace.  Check out of the culture for awhile!
Thanks for all your prayers and words of encouragement.  You have no idea what that has meant to us!!!!  Molly is doing great.  She is getting more hair and looks healthier every day!  We can't wait for all of you to meet her.  I plan on posting more photos tomorrow once I get to the Christian Internet Cafe where I can download photos to the website.  I love each and every one of you!  And remember, in the eye of the storm - GOD IS ALWAYS WITH YOU!  No matter what storm you are going through.  You'll never know the strength of your anchor until you've been through a storm!  When your anchor is in the Lord - no storm is too strong!!!  Love to all of you!  Becca, Craig and Molly Hill

July 15, 2004 - Well, after I had my complete breakdown yesterday, God reminded me that He is still in control and He is going to take care of things.  I must place my trust in Him!  Craig and I were praying yesterday about our situation and if I will stay here for the 30 day waiting period.  We prayed that if God wanted me to stay, He would have to send someone to help me or place someone in my life.  Well, He is so good.  I went to pick up Molly after my trip to the Internet Cafe and a lady said ( IN ENGLISH!!!!)  "Are you here to pick up Luba?"  I about freaked out!  I said "Where are you from????"  She said "Canada"  Anyway, she and her husband are missionaries here in this region!  They minister to college kids - its just like Young Life but for college students!  Her husband has been here for 11 years and she has been here for 3.  She volunteers Wednesday and Friday in Molly's room at the orphanage.  She has known Molly since she was a baby!  So, I'm telling her that I want to stay here but I need a place to stay and a translator.  She said "We will take care of you."  Most of the college students are English speaking and they would love to show you around and help you while Craig is gone.  Also, I will be able to help in their ministry by reaching lost students for Christ.  Maybe this is the whole reason we are in this region - to take my skills that He has given me through my Young Life ministry and to use them here!!!!  God is so good.  Then, I get an email from Brooke and Jennifer in New Braunfels telling me that another missionary from the US is coming to Ukraine and he's coming to this region!!!  How cool is that?  Then, I get an email from a lady in San Antonio that helps people adopt in Ukraine and she gives me the name of a Christian place in Kiev that can help me with a translator there!  Isn't God just amazing!  So, I feel much better and so does Craig.  We are going to be just fine!!!  Anita, the volunteer, said that Molly is very strong willed and dramatic!  She thrives on attention and when she gets it, she doesn't want it taken away!  So, now I know why God is allowing us to adopt only her for now!!!  Thank you God for always knowing what is best for us!  Thanks again for all the prayers!  Its cold here today - feels like Texas in December!!!!  I love and miss all of you greatly!!!!!  Becca, Craig and Molly Hill

July 14, 2004 - For some reason I am not able to email today.  The system is extremely slow - welcome to Eastern Europe!  So, I will only post to the site unless I can get on later.  Well, we will be coming home with only Molly.  The NAC has not granted us a second appointment.  They gave no reason.  But, we could file a complaint with the Minister of Education and take her to court.  But, why bother.  She is operating against the law and it would be nice to stop her, but is it worth all the fighting?  We have been blessed with such a precious child that we are okay with coming home with one.  Another set back is that they will most likely not waive the 30 days.  Another couple from Spain has been here 4 weeks and just had their court date yesterday.  The judge did not waive the 30 days and they will be traveling back to Spain to wait.  We, however, do not want to leave our precious Molly here by herself.  Craig really needs to come home and pay bills.  We may hire a translator to stay with me.  It would be less expensive for me to stay here than for us to fly home and then come back.  This little town is safe and I feel like I could stay here.  I've cried because I can't imagine being here for 45 more days but when you're a mom, you'll do anything for your child.  Right?  It will be hard, but I can't imagine leaving her behind.  The days go by fast here, especially with having a schedule.  We are a long way from bringing her home.  The director of the orphanage still has to sign paperwork that she agrees we should adopt Molly, due to our relationship bonding with her.  Then, that paperwork is given to the prosecutor here and then we are assigned a court date.  That date could be a couple of weeks from now.  Then, the 30 day wait occurs after we receive an approval from the judge on our court date.  So, there is a lot to do!  Craig will most likely come home and I'll travel back by myself to the US once the 30 day wait passes.  Please just pray for this process.  Its a long one!!!!!  This is the longest labor EVER!!!  But, she is our Molly!  Anyone interested in coming to Ukraine?  Just let me know!  Well, I better run.  Love you guys!  Becca, Craig and Molly

July 12, 2004 - TODAY IS MOLLY REBECCA'S 18 MONTH BIRTHDAY!  She got vaccinations for her birthday and is not very happy!  But, she did smile for us alot this morning.  We gave her a Discovery Toy Clown for her birthday and she LOVED it (Sorry, Michael - she loves clowns!).  Anyway, she was very happy this morning until they came to get her for her shots.  She came back very red-faced.  I'm sure she cried and cried.  I can't imagine and atleast I didn't get to witness it!  I would have cried my eyes out too.  Plus, she doesn't associate me with the shots so that is good!  She said "Papa" alot today but still didn't want to go to him.  It was raining today so we stayed inside.  She is sleeping now and we'll return at 1:00 to play again.  Hopefully its not raining but I think its a 90% chance today.  The high on Tuesday is 63!  Definitely not used to that weather!!!   I appreciate all the prayers and wonderful words of encouragement that we receive each and every day!  You have no idea what is means to read such great emails being so far away from home.  Thank you!  We hope to hear something in the next day or so about our next appointment.  If we don't receive one, we are okay with that too.  Its what God wants for our family and we can accept that.  We'll just come home and adopt!  Just continue to pray for us as we continue on this journey.  I can't believe we've been here 10 days - it feels like 10 months!!!  But, I know it will pass soon enough and we'll be home in Texas before we know it.  Hope to write soon and send more photos!  Love to all of you from Ukraine - Becca, Craig and Molly.

July 10, 2004 - Well, she is teething!  She loves the teether we got her and thank goodness for Infant Tylenol!  She was running a small fever yesterday but she seems to be better this morning.  She is still alittle frightened of Craig so please pray that she finds favor with him!!!!  The caregivers are so nice.  Her main caregiver is Vera.  She is so wonderful and loves her so much!  We are calling her Molly Luba right now trying to help her get used to her new name.  She understands Russian so its hard. I'm glad I studied it before coming here!!!  We taught her the word "duck".  Oksana gave her a TY Beanie Baby Duck named Quackers.  She loves it!!!!  She tried using her sippee cup today and was pretty successful!    We are officially on our own!  Our facilitator left to go back to Kiev to submit our petition to adopt Molly and our petition for a second appointment.  He will be back on Tuesday.  I went to the market by myself and bought groceries!  I was so proud of myself.  I think we'll be fine.  We are living in a very clean apartment and the lady who lives there cleans for us daily.  We have a hot shower and its so nice!  Our DVD player hooks to their TV so that makes for a nice evening!!!!  If we are not granted an appointment, that's okay and if we are not given a referral for a child in Molly's region, then we will be coming home with just her.  It would be too hard to travel back and forth from region to region.  It could take up to a day to travel to another region.  Just too hard!!!  Thanks again for all your prayers.  We are still trying to upload photos - its just these computers.  Maybe when we go to Kiev next week, we'll be able to do it.  Love to you all!  Becca, Craig and Molly.

July 7 and 8, 2004  - For some reason - it would not let me on yesterday.  Of course not, on the day that we met Molly.  This Internet Cafe is quite large with many computers.  But, that seems to be the worse - it takes up so much that the systems are very slow.  Anyway, we met Molly yesterday.  She came right to me and clung on to me for dear life.  She has blonde hair, brown/gray eyes, and weighs 19.8 pounds - however, we fed her alot today so she is probably close to 20 pounds.  It looks like she wears 12-18 months clothing so she isn't as small as we thought she would be.  Today, the 8th - she was pretty fussy.  Looks like she is cutting 4 teeth!!!  I will bring Tylenol tomorrow.  She would have nothing to do with Craig today - but that's understandable - they don't see men - EVER.  So, its alittle strange.  Plus, she was fussy and tired today.  That's okay though.  She screamed when I gave her to her caretaker for her nap.  Needless to say, I screamed too!  It was terrible.  I think I cry every minute!  Craig told me I have to stop crying but I just can't!!!!  Now I know what its like to leave a child in the nursery!!!!  Its hard!  We moved closer to her orphanage - a five minute walk.  The caretakers let me feed her whatever I want so she got bananas, cookies, and juice for the first time.  She walks, or should I say runs!  She talks, eats by herself, drinks by herself - and is very independent.  She's a doll and I love her very much!  We are hoping to get her photo on here but its not allowing me to upload her picture for some reason.  I better run but I will write more tomorrow.  I love you all and the emails are such an encouragement!  Becca, Craig and Molly

After the appointment!
Okay, it wasn't that bad!  The appt was originally at noon but we were pushed until 2:30.  The doctor/psychologist was very nice and very old!  He was so nice to us and he even laughed alot.  They have a parrot in there and he talks or chirps all the time.  It was funny, and nothing like I had expected.
We looked through two binders of children until 3.  We found two boys and three girls.  The last girl was a miracle!  She is perfectly healthy and she became available only yesterday!  WOW = God is so good!  We are leaving tomorrow after 4 PM to go to Dnipro - it was the region we did not want but I guess God has other things planned for us.  The doctor said we are VERY fortunate to have found her.  He pulled her picture from somewhere, it wasn't in the binder.  He called the orphanage and they confirmed that she was an awesome child!
We will go and visit her on Wednesday.  Her name is Lubov which is Love in English!  She is 18 months old.  I saw a picture of her and she is gorgeous!  I knew she was mine!  The boys I saw were great too.  There is one boy in particular that I hope we get to see.  Once we accept the girl, we can write a letter to the NAC and request another appointment to view the books again.  At that time, we will try for a boy.  We can request the same binder that we looked in today and I memorized the photos of the two boys!
Please pray that God will soften the heart of the judge in the Dnipro region.  Apparently, she is very mean.  Pray that the director will allow us to come back for a second appointment very soon.
Love to you all - we are going to watch the Olympic Torch!
Becca, Craig, Oxana, and Lubov!

July 5, 2004

THE DAY is finally here - July the 5th.  The day we have been waiting for for a long long time!  Our appointment is at noon today.  I spoke with another lady who is here in Kiev and she said we have a prime appointment!  Again, God is in control.   Its 10:15 and Edward will be picking us up at 11:00 so this will be a short entry.
We had our first Ukrainian food at a restaurant last night.  Oxana is a MUCH better cook!  I think we will eat at the flat for the rest of the time here.  It was expensive and very small portion!
Its warm today here but beautiful!  I feel great about today!  The Olympic Torch will be coming through Kiev today!  What an experience to see.  The NAC is not far from there so hopefully we will have a chance to see it.  By the looks of everything yesterday, its going to be a huge event!
Well, I must go.  Hopefully, I can download some photos today.  We found an Internet Cafe where they speak English and he will download from our digital.
Thanks for all your sweet emails, prayers, thoughts - they are what is keeping me going!  Love to you all!  Becca, Craig, and Oxana!

Second entry on July 4th!
Well, I just had to write again to tell how God works!  I broke down today with Craig and Oksana and admitted that I am terrified.  I am scared of what is to come.  They both comforted me and I felt better.  We are in the center of Kiev while touring some old historical churches.  As we were leaving McDonald's, I noticed a group of people speaking English.  We stopped them and they are here with Hope Now.  Its a Christian organization that sponsors orphanages.  The guy, RJ, who is from San Antonio, Texas.  YES- SAN ANTONIO!  has adopted from here and now helps couples adopt.  He and his wife were overwhelmed when they came 5 years ago so they want to help others adopt.  Is that amazing or what?  After talking to him, I feel so much better.  He said that people are very negative here and not to worry about what they say.  So, when Edward says "that we may not get a young child" that not to worry.  RJ and his wife are here on a mission trip.  They took orphans on a trip to the Black Sea.  I have a feeling that we will meet them again and be involved with their ministry!
Anyway, we are headed back towards our apartment flat.  We would like to go see some more of Kiev so I better run.  I'll write soon!
Love - Becca

July 4th!  Happy Independence Day!  We are here in Ukraine.  I can't believe we are here - its hard to believe.
We landed about 1 PM and we went through Customs like a breeze.  No one smiles though!!!  When we exited the customs area, we were followed around by taxi drivers - it was funny.  Edward showed up and things were fine.  We were taken to our apartment, which is VERY nice.  Its a two bedroom apartment with a kitchen, living area and nice bathroom.  We have hot water and even a washing machine.  But, it could get worse when we go to the region we will be adopting from.
We are so glad to have Oksana here with us.  She has been so helpful and she loves talking to Edward in Russian.  She feels at home.
We went to the supermarket last night and it costs $20 US dollars for a basket full of groceries.  I couldn't read anything we had in there but that's why we have Oksana.  She made us dinner last night and it was so good.  So much for losing weight while I am here!!!!
We will go to the NAC tomorrow.  Not sure what time.  But, I am alittle nervous. Edward told Oksana that we may not get a baby this time.  It makes me sad but I have to remember that I am here to glorify God not to become a Mommy!!!!  God is in control.  I can't explain the feeling you get when you are here.  Its a feeling of confusion, anxiousness and excitement.  For a minute you wonder what the heck you are doing here and if you have made a mistake.  But, the sweet emails and continued prayers are so helpful!!  KEEP THEM COMING!!!!
Well, I shall go for now but I will keep you posted.  I don't know how we will send photos of the children.  But, we will try.
Love to you all!
Becca

Leaving July 2nd!  More updates to follow!!!!  Ukraine - here we come!
